Landscape Problems and Solutions
It’s a Slippery (and Rocky) Slope!
Problem: A hot, west-facing slope of dry, sandy soil and rock are
viewed from the street as well as the rear entertaining area. The
client wants a drought tolerant and sustainable garden.
Solution: This design creates a dramatic, near maintenance-free
cactus garden that thrives in the most extreme exposure. A wide
variety of succulents in are planted in the shadier areas to
replicate an undersea coral reef. “Fish” and real coral add a touch
of whimsy. Rotating, low-volume sprinklers allow for maximum
water absorption and sustainability. A path leads to a remote
upper patio made of inexpensive interlocking pavers.
