Back Yard Car Lot
Problem: Unwelcome in a garden setting,
several trucks and cars that will be parked
on the new rear drive will be readily seen
from the patio and garden. Ugh! And the
new guest house needs a private garden
space of its own.
Solution: Instead of pouring a “straight shot” for the driveway as suggested by the contractor, my landscape design integrates the new concrete drive into the overall layout of the patio and walkways. Soft curves, a flagstone band and decorative scoring make the concrete more appealing. Planting pockets along the drive allow for two multi-trunk trees to hide the view of the vehicles. A small patio just outside the guest house flows out from the walkway, and an arbor to match the wooden patio cover visually ties the buildings together.
